Radix is a layer 1 smart contract platform focused on decentralizing the global financial system by providing atomically composable cross-shard transactions with linear scalability. It offers an intuitive asset-oriented programming language, Scrypto, a unique virtual machine, Radix Engine, and a consensus algorithm, Cerberus, which can braid consensus across a massive “shardspace”. The RADIX token (XRD) is used to secure the Radix Public Network by staking it as part of Radix’s Delegated Proof of Stake system and is also used to pay transaction fees. The project started in 2013 and was funded by Taavet Hinrikus and LocalGlobe. The mainnet will launch with the Babylon release that will allow production smart contracts written in Scrypto to run.
